Final Photo Essay-Seattles after Thanksgiving Parade

People Waiting with excitement for the colorful, and fun Macy's Holiday Parade in Seattle, Washington.

Trying to stay warm in the chilly morning air, Lillian Wu burros inside of her snowman costume, as she waits patiently for her float to begin in the parade.

South Kitsap High school from Port Orchard, Washington, preforms in the Seattle Christmas Parade. The band has been practicing for two months getting ready for their chance to march through downtown Seattle.

As the floats glide through the Seattle streets, young and old alike watch as though they were all children. This particular float was part of a chain of floats that were introducing the holiday season. (Sean Koski(behind float) is a parade marshal inspecting floats)

The final float in the Macy's Holiday Parade was Santa's Sleigh, and reindeer. The Head Parade Marshal Kevin Johnson talks to a news photographer about the parade.

Brett Branam lives in Corvallis, and enjoys taking in the downtown scenery while he works on his glass arts. Brett recently took up glass arts, and says he really enjoys it. Brett goes to Crescent Valley High School, finishing his senior year, and getting ready to move to New York next year for college.

The rain maybe falling, but that doesn't stop Tony Annsed from Corvallis, and her dog Maggie (not shown), from getting some exercise, as they play in the new Corvallis fenced in dog park, located next to the skate park.

I cropped it verticle because it just looked better this way. I didn't want to make it too verticle so I included the houses in the back drop a bit, and I really thought it was nicer to the eye. I did try it super cropped, but really that just didnt look right.

I found this photo at flickr.com. I thought it was a nice photo. I like the water and the scene. I didnt like that you couldnt see the girls face. it looks like he gave her something, and the girls expression is very important! This photo is also pretty grainy. I like the environment with the ships in the harbor, but you just need her face and it would be so much better! (and sharpened up.) It could be cropped a bit but I personally wouldnt crop it too much. maybe on the right a little? Definitely keep the boats in!

This week in class I had to try to find an action photo. Although I havent taken it yet I'm about to after class. My idea is to go to Timberhill Athletic Club in Corvallis, and go to their basketball court. People play games there all of the time!! Theres also vollyball, swimming, racketball etc. I think theres a lot of opportunity for a great photo!

I found this Image at Flickr.com. I like this image. It's got nice contrast with the off white and the red stuffed toys. I feel it could be cropped. I really enjoy the bed how it narrows in on her in a way. the lamp definitely doesnt need to be there. Just to specify more I would crop the bed. I think the entire bed is important, it helps the story that shes totally and completely involved in the novel shes reading with no distractions not even the flying stuffed toys. I like the shadows on the bed sheets however I'm not a fan of how much shadow there is behind her as well as to the right of her(maybe the darkened edges help the effect though?) Overall I enjoy looking at this photo, and creating a story in my mind.

I found this image at flickr.com. I dont like this photo very much let me just get that out of the way. She's too washed out, she looks kind of pissed off, and the sweater she's wearing is confusing. I feel like sometimes this way off center look works, but I dont believe it worked here. Also her dark raccoon eyes make it look as though she slept in her make-up and had a hard night. The reason I chose this picture is because all my dislike for it actually drew me to it. I think it was the contrast of her washed out face and the black background.

For my last assignment in this class I would like to take pictures that show the story of the bustling holiday crowd. Maybe go from not so crowded to progressively getting more crowded(Starbucks, downtown Corvallis, the mall, etc.)

This photo was taken while I was in Boston. I saw this guy and another guy playing on their plastic containers as well as other random objects. They actually made great music! This photo catches him in the moment and is nice and clear however I think it could be cropped.

This is a photo I took while in New York. This is one of my favorite photos even though it is a little blurry because it really feels like New York. You can see the bustle, the classic taxi cab, the bright lights, and tall buildings. I enjoy looking at this photo especially the blurred taxi cab at the bottom. However, if I could change something about it I might make it straighter and clearer.

I found this picture at flickr.com. I really like the angle of this photo. When I first looked at it the first thing that came to my mind how is the photographer holding his/her camera? The lady in the photo seems to be upset or distressed even. I think the angle adds to her emotions. Something I dont really like, I think that it could be cropped a little on the right, but maybe the photographer didnt want to cut the lady in the background in half?

I found this adorable photo at flikr.com. I really like the angle, it helps make the story in this picture. The girls sweet eyes stand out to me the most. I like how the photo is cropped, and i also like how it is lit. I don't see anything I would change about it.

This week in class we learned the difference between a feature photo and a news photo. We also watched an interesting film about being a photojournalist. I'm enjoying this class a lot and can't wait to take more pictures!

I found this beautiful picture on flickr.com. I like this picture because it has so much emotion: the baby with the tear in its eye, the sad faces on the children, the adults hand that looks as if its protecting the children huddling them closer together. The photo also has really nice lighting.

This picture was taken at the Benton County Fairgrounds during Kids Conservation Day on October 3rd 2009. The young girl is learning about water pollution from a hands on activity.

I chose this picture as my news photo.
I narrowed my choice down to this particular photograph because it showed the man bent down teaching the young girl, also showing his face. You know its about water/water pollution because of the signs below, and both people are centered in the picture. I also liked the lighting how the two main people popped out a bit.

This is one of the first pictures I took on Wednesday during class. I chose to post this particular picture because it showed this guys face(we are supposed to show faces). I also liked it because this guy is the middle of the picture, and there are two different things on each side of him balancing out the rest of the picture.

I'm creating this blog account because I chose to take a Photojournalism class at LBCC. In this class on Wednesday we went out and took pictures of people "in motion." Anyone that wasn't posing for a picture we would take a picture of. Some people seemed annoyed once they soon realized their picture was being taken by a crowd of photographers. I'll post pictures I take in this class(not that they will be any good.)
